If you were told you had to leave all the bibles in your house on your front porch to be picked up and burned or you would be thrown in jail how would you feel? Would you be upset? Mad? Sad?
What would your first thoughts be?
"I don't want to give up my Bible, I planned on reading it someday." or "What will I do without my Bible? I rely on Gods word for guidance when I am unsure and for comfort when I am going through difficult times." or even "What about all the children now and not born yet? How will they learn how much God loves us? The story of creation? Jesus' teaching about how we are to behave and think? About Jesus' death and most importantly his resurrection?"
They need to know they can be forgiven of all their sins. God wants us to have heaven here on earth, including a loving relationship with Him. Without our bibles, we would have to recite everything we have ever learned from memory and details would be lost in translation.
We need to read it for ourselves in order for the Holy Spirit to help us understand and teach it to others.
The idea of reading the entire bible has always seemed overwhelming to me. Though we are blessed to have the older King James version, I didn't enjoy reading it as much as I do the New International Version, which is written in our modern language. It occurred to me that if the bible were not as thick I wouldn't be so intimidated by it. I was not aware you could buy each chapter of the bible, individually. Carrying one book instead of all 65 at one time is a short term goal I feel I could handle.
My plan is to read each chapter and paraphrase, here, what I have read, in my own words, as I pray for the Holy Spirit to guide my understanding- since 'he' is the 'one' who wrote it! I hope my writings will entice others into reading the bible of their choosing, and let me and others know what they have learned or understood to be the message conveyed.
I am thirsting to hear God's voice (the life giving water) as I read my bible for guidance, comfort and the discipline that I need in my daily walk through my heaven on earth. Won't you join me for a sip at a time of the best drink you will have ever tasted?
